Pros and Cons of a Brazilian Butt Lift
In recent years, more women are beginning to embrace bigger butts. Leading that charge is the cosmetic surgical procedure – the Brazilian Butt Lift. While it was not among the top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures performed at 2017, buttocks augmentation with fat grafting made notable gains – with a 10 percent increase over the previous year. And like every other cosmetic procedure, there are pros and cons. Here at my office – Adam G. Tattelbaum MD., a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, we thought we’d share with you the pros and cons of a Brazilian Butt Lift.
The Brazilian Butt Lift is a Fan Favorite
Without question, buttock augmentation with fat grafting continues to grow in popularity. There are many benefits to getting a Brazilian Butt Lift, which helps fuel its popularity. The procedure begins with liposuction. That is, taking fat from other parts of your body – typically your abdomen and the flanks – and implanting it into your butt.
PRO: More Natural Look
This leads us to one of the pros of this procedure. Unlike buttocks implants, because your own fat is used, the Brazilian Butt Lift gives you a more natural, soft feeling butt. Plus, it won’t shift over time the way many implants do.
CON: It’s Surgery
Are there risks involved with the Brazilian Butt Lift? Yes, of course. You take a risk every time you undergo surgery – any type of surgery, be it elective or non-elective. And like most cosmetic surgeries, you will need to undergo general anesthesia.
PRO: Incisions Are Small
One of the definite pros for the Brazilian Butt Lift is that the incisions are small. Like liposuction scars, the fat is inserted through small incisions.
CON: Sitting Restrictions
Obviously, since this surgery is done on an integral, very active part of our body that takes a lot of pressure, you need to take sitting precautions following the surgery. Depending on the circumstances (such as your lifestyle, job, etc.), you may be advised not to sit or lie directly on your buttocks for at least a week, maybe a bit longer, following the procedure.
PRO: An Attractive Butt
The procedure can enhance the curves of your lower body. The combination of fat removal and fat addition is a powerful tool in body shaping. It may take up to a year before you see the full results of the surgery.
CON: About 40 percent of the transferred fat may be reabsorbed over time, so setting realistic expectations is important.
PRO: The liposuction fat that is removed is gone.
