Four Injectables That Slow Down the Aging Process
Anti-aging injections or “injectables” offer a minimally invasive solution to wrinkled and creased skin, shallow facial contours, thin lips, recessed scars, sagging eyelids, and more. Some injectables that are referred to as dermal fillers essentially restore plumpness, volume, and youth to the face.
Who Needs Anti-Wrinkle Injectables?
I generally recommend injectables to adults who have lost some of their skin’s elasticity. As we age, we naturally lose collagen in the skin. In turn, that bouncy, plump appearance of youth can be lost. Many factors such as smoking, sun exposure, and overall lifestyle can also influence a patient’s need for injectables.
If creases and wrinkles aren’t problems, injectables may also be used to give the appearance of plumper lips. This is especially true for those in their 20s or 30s who weren’t naturally blessed with much fullness in their lips; however, it may also benefit adults who have lost their natural lip shape over time.
Four Types of Injectables to Slow the Aging Process
Botox for the Brow
This is by far the most popular injectable on the market and the one I use the most for my patients when it comes to reducing the appearance of crows feet and forehead wrinkles. Sometimes, Botox can be used around the mouth and on the neck for lines and small wrinkles as well.
Not only does Botox work extremely well, but the company that makes it (Allergan) also offers a unique incentive program called “Brilliant Distinctions”, which many of my patients like.
Juvederm for Cheeks and Lips
Juvederm is the hyaluronic acid-based filler product I recommend and use most for those who want plumper, fuller cheeks or lips, or on the bridge of the nose l. The injection process involved in using Juvederm is simple and with minimal discomfort. This is largely because fillers have local anesthesia in them.
Restylane for Volume Loss Under the Eye
When wrinkles and fine lines appear around the eyes, I generally recommend a thinner filler from the Restylane family. This filler focuses on reducing the appearance of facial folds and lines and can last anywhere from six to nine months. Like Juvederm, it has a hyaluronic acid base.
Voluma for Cheeks
Unlike some of the other fillers available to patients, Voluma is special because it lasts so long — up to 18 months. That’s because it’s an especially thick filler. As such, I often use it on the cheeks and cheekbone areas to boost lost plumpness, shape, and contouring.
