Hair Transplant: Artas Robotic hair transplantation with a hair of Neograft
Neograft/Artas Robot combo : As many of you know our hair group was the first adopter of the Artas hair transplant robot in the metro D.C. Area. We have been fortunate enough to be able to use our center for teaching the intricacy of this machine to others as well. Artas has grown with us over the past three years; evolving to better software and extraordinary efficiency in the correct candidates. We have also learned some of the limitations of the machine. Artas thinks like a robot. It does an amazing job of follicular unit extraction in its neatly prescribed boxes, but it thinks just inside the box. Hair grows all over and is not as neatly packaged as its computer might think. For the past year we have begun offering Artas Robot/ Neograft combinations to our hair transplant patients. It’s been a nice evolution that allows the rapid harvest of large areas of hair with the Artas robot. Then Neograft adds additional hair follicles in areas where the robot does not harvest as well such as the side of the head. While the robot thinks grids, Neograft is free form. It allows us to soften the sharper harvesting margins left by the robot while gaining even more hair to transplant. This random extraction is often less noticeable. The progression fascinates me because these are two competing technologies (and companies). Even so, as far as results go, combined they may be greater than the sum of their parts.
