How Hair Transplants Can Change Your Life

How Hair Transplants Can Change Your Life

Hair transplants can really make all the difference. With the popularity of hair transplants on the rise, it is clear that more and more people are regaining their hairlines and improving upon baldness. While this is truly fascinating and exciting for those who want the same results, it’s important to remember that you must be the right candidate for the procedure.

Here is everything you need to know:

Age

While there isn’t really an age limit when it comes to hair transplants, there are some standards. Ideally, the best candidates are 30 years of age and above. As individuals in their twenties can still be experiencing premature hair loss, the best course of action is to wait until the right age for the proper diagnosis. Your hair transplant team will help guide you toward a forward-thinking plan.

The most ideal candidates for this procedure are those suffering from male or pattern baldness. This means that it’s a genetic condition affecting only parts of the scalp, where other spots still show hair growth. This means that the patient still has a good level of hair follicles, which the doctor can work with. Females do undergo hair transplant but are treated on a case by case basis because patterns of baldness are less consistent.

Individuals with complete baldness are not because there are no follicles to transplant.

General Health

Because a hair transplant is considered a surgical procedure, to be a good candidate, you must be in good health. This means regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, and making the right lifestyle choices. Any critical conditions, such as heart issues, pose threats to the procedure and should be discussed with your doctor to prevent any complications.

Types of Transplants

There are essentially three types of hair transplants: Strip harvesting, Follicular unit extraction (FUE) and ARTAS.

Strip harvesting is the gold standard of hair transplantation and usually provides the largest amount of hair for transplant. The surgeon will harvest a strip of skin from the back of the head. Though this is an effective method, the only downside is the scar on the back of the scalp This can be hidden well with hair, though its visibility depends on

Follicular Unit Extraction removes individual follicles from the back of the head, and which are implanted in areas where balding is prominent. This type of transplant leaves small holes which heal in with minimal visibility. The success is not quite as high as with a strip technique, and it is necessary to shave the back of the head, but some patients prefer this less invasive alternative.

The ARTAS Robot is also a great option. This method uses a robot or machine to remove the hair as in  FUE.  It provides similar results to the other procedures and can be quicker, and more efficient.

When it comes to hair transplants, it’s important you seek the right doctor, considering you’re a good candidate. Make sure that your surgeon is certified and experienced with the type of procedure you want. If you’re ready to schedule a consultation, contact Dr.Tattelbaum today.
